‘Peak power demand to cross 7,400 MW’

Electricity discom, BSES, said that it expects Delhi’s peak power demand to cross 7,400 MW mark this summer. In the summer of 2018, peak power for the city reached a record 7,016 MW, said a BSES statement on Friday. BSES said this year they are expecting a 200% increase in power demand from that of 2002, when the peak power was 2,879 MW. Compared to other metro cities, Delhi’s peak power is higher than that of Mumbai and Chennai put together and is three times that of Kolkata. This includes long term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with other states , including Himachal Pradesh, UP, J&K, Meghalaya, Manipur and Sikkim.
