Hillary Clinton accuses President Trump of having waged an “assault on our democracy” during his first two years in office and urges Americans to fight back in a scathing new essay published by the Atlantic on Sunday night. In the essay, Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, writes that the Republican who defeated her has pursued policies of “unspeakable cruelty,” including separating migrant families at the border. And right now, our democracy is in crisis.”“I don’t use the word crisis lightly,” she says. In the essay, Clinton also accuses Trump of “waging war on truth and reason” and “breathtaking corruption” and says he is undermining “the national unity that makes democracy possible.”Since her 2016 loss, Clinton has stepped up her criticism of Trump and his policies. Trump, meanwhile, continues to use Clinton as a foil, criticizing her at political rallies and calling for investigations of her actions while secretary of state.
