Commuters from Irumbuliyur, Peerkankaranai, and Vandalur (Railway Gate), have urged the Metropolitan Transportation Corporation (MTC) to introduce more ‘whiteboard’ (ordinary) services through GST Road. Though the aforementioned bus stops are halting points for ordinary bus services, only two buses — 500 (Tambaram – Chengalpattu) and 118 (Tambaram – Maraimalai Nagar) stop here. The ‘deluxe’ and ‘express’ buses rarely make a halt at these bus stops. “The share-auto fares go up to ₹20 for a ride from Perungalathur to Peerkankarani after 8.30 p.m., which is exorbitant, he adds. The only other option that G. Aishwarya, another commutter, sees is boarding the non-whiteboard buses when they halt at traffic signals.
