‘Onyok’ now a typhoon — PagasaBy The Manila Times“ONYOK” (international name: Mitag) intensified into a typhoon on Sunday evening, the weather bureau said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) spotted “Onyok” at 180 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes at 4 a.m. A gale warning is up in the northern coast of Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon including Polilio Island. On Monday, the trough of Onyok was expected to bring scattered light to moderate rain showers and isolated thunderstorms over Cagayan, Apayao and Ilocos provinces. Pagasa weather specialist Meno Mendoza said Onyok was less likely to make landfall in any part of the country.
