‘Onyok’ intensifies into tropical storm as it enters PH – PagasaBy The Manila TimesTROPICAL depression “Onyok” (international name: Mitag) intensified into a tropical storm on Saturday and was expected to bring rain to Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas, the state-run Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said. It said that “Onyok” could intensify further into a severe tropical storm within 24 hours but was unlikely to make landfall in any part of the country. In its 11 a.m., bulletin, Pagasa said Onyok was spotted at 870 kilometers east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 1,105 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora. Onyok is the 15th tropical cyclone to enter the country, Pagasa said. Ten more tropical cyclones are expected within the year, the weather bureau added.
