Share TweetBy Alexandria Dennise San JuanTyphoon “Ompong” increased its speed this afternoon as it continues to move closer to Luzon, threatening landfall in the northern provinces as its effects will clearly be felt beginning Friday. As of 6 p.m. PAGASA located the eye of Ompong at 575 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes. Maintining its strength of maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kph, Ompong continues to draw nearer to Northern Luzon. The typhoon is also expected to bring heavy to intense rains or at least 180 millimeters to 720 millimeters amount of rainfall over the entire Northern Luzon on Saturday.
