A medical expert, Professor Uche Onwudiegwu, has said that Nigeria’s rapid population growth was a reflection of the nation’s ineffective and failed population policy since its independence. It was titled “Nigeria’s Rapid Population Growth and fertility: Implications for Economic Development”. He stated that the high family size is the single most important driver of Nigeria’s population growth rate. According to him, if Nigeria continues on its current path of high fertility, Nigeria will continue to be overwhelmed by population, poor planning, poor products and poor living standard. He stated, “Nigeria’s high total fertility rate and rapid population growth are influencing its economy and will continue into the future.
