‘My aim is simple: become champion jockey’ – Egan

David Egan has his eyes set on becoming a future champion Flat jockey after the Kildare rider enjoyed another career-defining success aboard Mishriff in the lucrative Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan last weekend. The 21-year-old has had a whirlwind month having also landed the Saudi Cup on John Gosden’s four-year-old and he looks set to be on a collision course with Kerry’s Oisín Murphy to be crowned British champion Flat jockey over the coming years. “If any jockey doesn’t set out at the start of the season wanting to be champion jockey, then I think you’re in the wrong frame of mind, so I think that’s definitely something that I’ll be aiming towards to try and ride as many winners as I can,” Egan told the Irish Independent. “To try and be champion jockey, whether it happens this year or in five years’ time, who knows, but I’ll be trying to ride as much as I can and ride as many winners as I can. The money will be lent to the Levy Board due to its role in providing central funding of industry costs of race-day regulation, equine welfare and industry training.
