KLANG: Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah wants all imam and mosque officials in the state to steer clear of extremist and liberal ideologies. The Selangor Ruler said certain groups among Muslims had deviated from the true teachings of Islam and considered killing others as jihad. “I implore imams and religious officials to monitor extremist activities so that they will not gain a foothold in Selangor,” he said at a ceremony to present letters of appointment to Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) members for the 2018-2020 term at Istana Alam Shah here yesterday. “Mais and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department, as the two highest bodies in the state, must be stern in acting against those who go against my decree and rules that have been set,” the Ruler added. Earlier at the ceremony, the Sultan consented to the appointment of former Selangor State Secretary Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi as chairman of Mais effective Jan 1 next year.
