‘Middle-class coke heads’ face five-year ban from football stadiums to tackle ‘disorder’ after Euro 2020 final

Fans convicted of using cocaine at football matches could face five-year bans from stadiums in a bid to prevent a repeat of the violent disorder seen at the Euro 2020 final. The measure, to come into force for the 2022/23 football season starting in August, is the latest announcement in the Government’s “crime week”. “More and more, the police are finding Class A drugs at the heart of that disorder and so we must act. “Football banning orders have been a game-changer in rooting out racism and violence at football, and now we want them to do the same for drug-related disorder. They can currently only be imposed on people convicted of violence, disorder or racist or homophobic chanting, and were recently extended to cover online hate offences.
