It will be a continuing fascination of this summer to watch the new model David Warner in action. This is not the brash, bristling uber-Aussie, the sledging, snarling agent provocateur, the prime villain in the ball-tampering episode that forced the whole of Australia into a collective bout of soul-searching. Over a year of banishment for his part in that miserable tale, that version of Warner has, supposedly, been consigned to history. In his place, the player who has been sent to endure the barracking of English crowds this summer is a milder, mellower model, chastened by his experiences, a sackload of contrition slung over his shoulder.
