LEWISTOWN, Ill. - Visitors to the Illinois State Museum Dickson Mounds will be introduced to the practice of flintknapping at a “Weekend Knap-in.”The annual event will be March 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Participants will see the flintknapping techniques used by several craftsmen and see their stone-tool creations. The Sunday event will include the museum’s annual Artifact Identification Day. Museum archeologists and other experts will identify native American artifacts that visitors bring with them. They may also bring prehistoric and historic pieces and other objects such as fossils, bones and rock specimens.
