The Morality of VictoryIn terms of fundamentals, Just War Theory is completely unopposed by any other theory of war today. For those concerned about self-defense, the alleged alternative to Just War Theory is “realism”: the idea that there is no connection between morality and war. The necessity of war in self-defense arises when a nation is attacked or threatened by a foreign aggressor. Given the purpose of war, the answer must be: in a way that protects the individual rights of one’s citizens. We are losing the war on Islamic totalitarianism because our leadership, political and military, is crippled by the morality of altruism, embodied in the tenets of Just War Theory.
