The survey of primary and special schools was carried out by the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO), Irish Primary Principals’ Network and the Catholic Primary Schools Management Association. The report says a “widespread” reliance on staff who are not qualified to teach highlights the severity of the teacher supply crisis. A total of 86pc said they were dissatisfied with the department’s response to the “teacher supply crisis”. “The teacher allocation ratio in primary schools is now at the lowest ever seen at primary level,” he added.
