PETALING JAYA: Government and political leaders in all states are being urged to improve public infrastructure to accommodate the OKU (orang kurang upaya or disabled persons) community. They pointed out that better OKU access to public amenities would allow the community to be more productive and would lead to better quality of life. To prove their point, 50 OKUs earlier wheeled themselves to the nearest bus stop from the office to demonstrate the difficulties they faced. There was no ramp to enable them to get on the walkway to the bus stop and they had to wait by the roadside for the bus. The group also questioned if the country was ready to accommodate tourists with disabilities in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2020.
