Building a hotel in Sakwa, about six to eight hours from Nairobi by road, would have sounded like a far-fetched investment idea, a few years ago. Pikidi Gardens, near Liunda Beach, was once a family home but Dorothy Achieng’ turned it into a hotel, although that was not exactly the game plan. We started constructing the main house in February 2017 and moved by August 2018. She turned the home into a hotel one and half years ago but bookings were very low during the pandemic and still are.
