On Wednesday 3 August 1938, a short advertisement appeared on the second page of the Manchester Guardian, under the title “Tuition”. Small ads in the Manchester Guardian on 3 August 1938, including one for Julian Borger’s father. Many – perhaps most – Viennese Jewish men were taken to Dachau, the camp in Bavaria, and had to be ransomed out. This brought 10,000 Jewish children to Britain in the months leading up to the outbreak of war. I offered my condolences and sent a copy of the Manchester Guardian ad.
