Diplomat putting the focus on shared security issuesThe new British ambassador to ­Ireland has said maritime and ­cyber security are among the major ­issues both countries must tackle together. “We are hoping that by the time the summit (the UK & Ireland summit next year) comes along, we will have completed that work as a sort of modernised, refreshed idea of what we’re doing together,” she said. “Cyber security obviously will be central to that, and maritime, what we do together in the maritime domain? How can we make sure that all of those things, that critical national infrastructure, is kept safe?”British ambassador to Ireland Kara Owen is looking for joint opportunities. Married to former Defence Forces member William Tierney from Ballinasloe, Co Galway, Ireland is not unfamiliar terrain for Ms Owen.
