And there’s an awfully heavy reliance on clips from racially charged movies that Baldwin loved to discuss and dissect. “When Sidney jumps off the train,” Baldwin says, narrating the clip, “the white liberal people downtown were much relieved and joyful. Mainly, though, his tone is deadly serious as he lashes out at the bigotry he sees all around him. Through most of its 95 minutes, “I Am Not Your Negro” sustains a level of brilliance that’s as stirring as it is provocative.
