‘I’ve never, in town, been able to see a funnel cloud like that’: Tornado hits just north of Three Hills, Alberta

Residents of a central Alberta town got a front-row seat to a spectacular spring tornado Friday afternoon. Dodi Brauen was sitting on her front porch watching the storm approach when the unmistakable form of a funnel cloud suddenly started to descend from the swirling, grey clouds. “It started to rain, a little bit, and then I said, ‘Oh, that looks like a funnel cloud,'” she said, describing the tornado slowly lower from the sky and touch the ground. Severe weather watches were issued by Environment Canada turned into warnings, with the weather service later confirming a tornado had indeed touched down. “I have on occasion taken photos of this kind of weather, but I’ve been here since 1992, and I’ve never, in town, been able to see a funnel cloud like that,” he said.
