‘Humans are suffering’: Axing of basic income pilot project leaves trail of broken dreams

Another 2,000 people, enrolled as a “control” or comparison group, also completed the baseline survey, but did not receive the basic income. But the Ford government refused to conduct followup interviews to gauge the project’s success, said Sheila Regehr, chair of Basic Income Canada. “Fortunately, basic income participants are sharing stories about how it has truly transformed their lives and could do the same for Canadians across the country,” she said. Humans of Basic Income, a moving photo exhibit by participant Jessie Golem, shows how the basic income was improving the lives of 63 fellow participants.
