The police said that the accused teacher Rakesh Kumar, her distant relative, wanted to oblige her as she had told him that she would help him become the principal of DAV Centenary Public School where he was a commerce teacher. “The woman had told Rakesh that she can help him become the principal by pulling some strings. He thought that with Anju’s help, he could get the principal’s position,” the officer said adding that this is the reason Mr. Kumar wanted to “oblige” her and show her “his influence”. Sources said that the woman was called in for questioning earlier during the five-day police custody of Mr. Kumar but was let off. “Both of them had to be present when the question paper would be handed over to Mr. Kumar, but Mr. Ram asked Om Prakash to go alone.
