More carers will be needed to look after an ageing population GETTY IMAGESTransition-year students should be made to take a module on caring so that they can consider it as a career, the head of an organisation representing carers has said. Joseph Musgrave, chief executive of Home and Community Care Ireland, which represents 12,000 workers, spoke to The Times before a joint Oireachtas health committee meeting today at which he will say that attracting and retaining talented carers was crucial to prevent a “race to the bottom on pay”. Mr Musgrave said: “We think it is vital that we broaden the base of available workers.
