LAURA Sarreal Elorde, the widow of legendary pugilist and former World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association super featherweight champion Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, passed away at the age of 92 in their family compound in Sucat, Parañaque City early on Sunday morning due to natural causes. Laura’s grandson, Juan Martin “Bai” Elorde, narrated to The Manila Times in an online interview that she initially spent three weeks in Perpetual Help Medical Center in Las Piñas City. She spent three weeks in the hospital, but the family decided to [bring] her home from the hospital. The Elordes are planning to hold a private wake for the grand old lady of boxing in their family compound for two to three days. Much beloved by Filipinos, Gabriel “Flash” Elorde was one of the longest-reigning Filipino world champions for seven years from 1960 to 1967.
