‘Early withdrawal of US troops will have consequences’: Abdullah Abdullah

indiaUpdated: Oct 08, 2020 22:58 ISTA premature withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan will have consequences, especially if the Taliban don’t deliver on commitments to prevent the use of Afghan soil by groups such as al-Qaeda, Afghan peace negotiator Abdullah Abdullah said on Thursday. Trump tweeted he wanted “the small remaining number of our BRAVE Men and Women serving in Afghanistan home by Christmas”. The deal signed by the US and the Taliban in February envisages the withdrawal of all US troops by May 2021. There are currently less than 9,000 US troops in Afghanistan, and the number was expected to drop below 5,000 by November. “He [Modi] said whatever settlement is acceptable for the people of Afghan, we [will support it],” he added.
