A veteran female police officer publicly resigned Tuesday at a tense meeting of the Calgary police commission, citing ongoing issues with bullying and harassment in the workplace. The 14-year veteran officer — who also goes by the surname Magnus — said her efforts to bring to light issues around bullying, harassment, sexual assault and nepotism were unwelcome to some members of the CPS executive. Ward was one of two service members who approached former police chief Rick Hanson with concerns, which led to the 2013 workplace review. “Things about gender equity particularly are what we’re striving hard to understand.”Addressing Ward directly earlier in the evening, Coun. 1 priority of the commission, and therefore the service, because of her actions and those like her,” Thiessen said.
