The government also did not conduct an awareness drive to reach people who need rehabilitation. “Even village sarpanchas do not know about the public hearings. While we are not against the irrigation project, we demand the government to spread awareness about compensation and rehabilitation before the public hearings. “The government should understand that the suggestions made by stakeholders will help in providing better care for affected farmers,” Ms. Padma said.
