“Most rickshaw pullers returned home when the government announced the general holiday (lockdown) a couple of months ago. Khaled said he came to Dhaka seven years ago in search of work to save up for a small shop. Khaled spent another Tk2,000 on rent for the room he shares with three people and would save about Tk2,000 for the future. People mostly chose rickshaws and we charged double because of the scarcity of any kind of transport,” Khaled said. Asked if he fears contracting Covid-19, Khaled said he does not care.
