There has been a dramatic reduction in congestion in Chennai Port for the past few months, a study conducted by Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) says. Also, efforts like laning and regulation of container traffic inside the port have yielded results. According to the report, one of the main reasons for the 50 per cent reduction in congestion is the easing of traffic on the roads leading to the port. The opening of additional gates and widening of roads made it possible. The reduction can be seen from the decrease of average transit time of container trailers from 40 hours in 2014 to 14.54 hours in 2016 and 7.29 hours as of June 1 this year, the report said.
