‘Baste’ supports lumads as caravan heads for ManilaBy Yas D. Ocampo and Mike U. CrismundoDavao City – Presidential son Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte has joined initiatives supporting the rights of indigenous peoples (IP). The campaign aims to push for “love, respect, appreciation” for indigenous peoples, with the hashtag #StopThePain as its rallying call. The Department of Education earlier enjoined administrators and teachers of public schools to increase their students’ awareness , understanding and respect of IPs and cultural diversity. DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, in a memo last September, mandated all offices and public schools to promote indigenous culture for the whole month of October. As of yesterday, the caravan arrived in Sorsogon and is expected to reach Manila on October 13.
