‘Austria shut its borders but Ryanair still won’t refund me’

✉ I booked to go skiing for two weeks from December 4 but Austria closed its borders to tourists from the UK. I applied to Ryanair for a refund or voucher for the outbound flight (which had been rebooked after my original one was cancelled) and was told this wasn’t possible. Ryanair also declined my request for the tax paid, saying that this cost had been absorbed. I then tried to change my return flight to March but the fee for this was going to cost me £45, which was more than I paid for the ticket. The money involved isn’t huge but it’s the principle: I think other airlines are giving refunds or credits for people in the same situation.
