‘And sisterhood’: Schuyler Sisters put their own spin on ‘America the Beautiful’

From left, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Phillipa Soo sing “America the Beautiful” before Super Bowl LI. (Matt Slocum/Associated Press)Phillipa Soo, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Jasmine Cephas Jones — the artists who played Eliza, Angelica and Peggy Schuyler in the original cast of the Broadway musical “Hamilton” — put their own spin on the first verse of “America the Beautiful” before Super Bowl LI on Sunday in Houston. Soo, Goldsberry and Jones apparently proposed the idea of tweaking the line to “Hamilton” music supervisor Alex Lacamoire. A huge smile broke out on Falcons Coach Dan Quinn’s face after the “and sisterhood” line. Patriots Coach Bill Belichick didn’t appear to be as moved by the performance, but Belichick has possibly never smiled about anything in his life, so the Schuyler Sisters shouldn’t take it personally.
