Monrovia - Alleged rape suspect Varney Jarsey, who has been in pre-trial detention at the Monrovia Central Prison since November 2016, is said to be suffering from multiple illnesses while awaiting justice to be served. The defense, however, requested the court to order an independent medical examination and interpretation of the medical record so as to enable the defendant (Jarsey) be granted bail. But the state said it was it which brought the medical report reflecting defendant health condition and not them. The prison facility conditions are horrible according to Jarsey as they are 10 or 11 persons sleeping in a tiny cell. John Gabriel, said defendant Jarsey will have to await the time for prosecution adding that the unit wouldn’t act on public sentiment.
