‘Aggressive’ sea-lion attacks force officials to ban swimming at popular San Francisco cove

The incidents prompted the National Park Service, which runs the cove, to temporarily ban swimming there over the weekend. The San Francisco Fire Department said it applied a tourniquet to Einfeldt’s wound at Pier 45, which probably saved his life. He was taken to a hospital with a “severe bite,” according to a San Francisco fire spokesman. Both species appear in Aquatic Park Cove, and both have been known to bite people occasionally in the San Francisco Bay. The Aquatic Park Cove has been closed to swimming due to reports of an aggressive marine mammal biting swimmers in the area.
