Those who knew North Mecklenburg High School student John Daniel Morales describe him as “energetic” and a good leader. Morales’ family could not immediately comment on his death when reached by The Charlotte Observer on Friday. During a volunteer trip to Atlanta with the group, Morales helped to feed 1,000 people, Robinson said. Morales’ former Blythe Elementary School teacher, in a Facebook post, remembered him as “one of the sweetest, (most energetic), caring students” she ever taught. A GoFundMe page to help Morales’ family with funeral expenses called the teenager “a kind hearted respectful young man.”As of Friday evening, more than $16,000 had been raised.
