There were stories with headlines such as “Fox News Roasted After Graphic Refers To ‘3 Mexican Countries’ ” and “People Just Can’t Get Over Fox And Friends Mistakenly Claiming That There Are ‘3 Mexican Countries.’ ” The jokes boomeranged across social media. And all joking aside, the fact a staffer input “3 MEXICAN COUNTRIES” reveals something about the us-and-them mindset of the network’s immigration coverage, past, present and future. In this context, “3 MEXICAN COUNTRIES” ceases to be an innocent mistake and descends into what classical psychoanalysts called parapraxis. So, ultimately, what the “3 MEXICAN COUNTRIES” slip-up does is dovetail with Fox’s opinion-slingers. I will admit “3 MEXICAN COUNTRIES” gave me a good laugh on Sunday.
