The strongest winds in almost four years battered Wellington on Monday night, keeping emergency services busy. A strong wind warning is in place until 12 noon for Wairarapa, including the Tararua District, Wellington and Marlborough Sounds. Corrigan said the wind’s direction was “a little bit more westerly than our typical strong Wellington northerlies”. Crews attended incidents of fallen trees, roofs lifting, broken windows, downed power lines and broken cladding, due to the strong northwesterly winds. Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has issued a strong wind warning on State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill Rd overnight.
