Franklin Drilon was reelected the Senate minority leader on Monday after the Senate convened its first regular session under the new 18th Congress. Pangilinan said that consistent with the Senate rules, legislative practices and precedence, the minority would select its own leader. “On behalf of the minority (bloc), [Senators Ana Theresia Risa] Hontiveros, [Leila] de lima and this representation, we inform the body that it is our desire to retain Sen. Drilon in his position as our leader in the minority,” he said. Pangilinan said that the depth and breadth of Drilon’s experience in the Senate “has been invaluable not only for the minority but also for the majority.”“Sen. Drilon has done an excellent job in the previous Congress and we wish it to remain as such.
