£750k Network Rail boss gets CBE on same day his firm is labelled 'failing'

Mark Carne, who stood down as Network Rail chief this summer, received a CBE at a Buckingham Palace for services to the rail industry. The Office of Rail and Road said NR’s punctuality and reliability had hit “lowest levels since the current five-year control period began in 2014”. The regulator blamed the new timetable and extreme weather and ordered NR to raise its game and deliver an action plan within three months.
