The Times understands that the investment will help cover coronavirus testing to allow players to return to pre-season training ahead of a new campaign kicking off on September 5. Richard Masters, the Premier League chief executive, also told the digital, culture, media and sport parliamentary select committee that he would like his organisation to take over the running of the Women’s Super League from the FA. “In the past year we have had lots of dialogue with the FA and with our own clubs about the Premier League at some point in the future assuming responsibility for the professional game,” Masters said.
