As the United Kingdom sees the return of snow and sub-zero temperatures, it’s nothing compared to what goes on in the Russian village of Oymyakon – regarded as the coldest village in the world. The village has recorded official lows of -59C in recent days, and this week was hovering anywhere between -40C and -50C. A new electric thermometer in the village, which sits in the Russian region of Yakutia, dropped to even lower, at -62C, then broke because it was too cold. See photos:The below-freezing temperatures froze the eyelashes of locals, and two men reportedly froze to death when they tried to walk to a nearby farm after their car broke down at the weekend. But the ice-cold temperatures didn’t stop one group of Chinese tourists from stripping off and bathing in an ice-free spring in the village.
