Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu has lost the ODM nomination to National Assembly minority whip Thomas Mwadeghu. Provisional results showed Mwadeghu garnered 17,567 votes against Mruttu's 14,817 to clinch the party's ticket ahead of the August 8 general election. Before the board released the figures, it was reported that Mruttu got 3,628 votes while Mwadeghu got 4,417 in Wundanyi. In Mwatate, Mruttu polled 3,221 votes while Mwadeghu got 8,626.
