‘Most government workers unaware of uniform law’MANILA, Philippines — About half of government employees in the Philippines are unaware that they may be technically violating the law because of the uniforms they wear. Under the amended implementing rules and regulations of the Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) Law, all fabrics used for government uniforms must contain at least five percent natural fibers or silk by weight. “Every employee who doesn’t wear a PTF uniform is technically in violation of the law. Chinese ships spotted in Panatag during Philippines humanitarian missionMANILA, Philippines — Patrol ships of the China Coast Guard (CCG) were seen at the vicinity of Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal during the latest humanitarian mission for Filipino fishermen venturing in the area, the Philippine Coast Guard reported. According to PCG spokesman on West Philippine Sea issues Commodore Jay Tarriela, spotted in the area were CCG vessels with bow numbers 3105, 3106, and 2307. PCG patrol ships BRP Gabriela Silang, BRP Cape San Agustin and BRP Cabra helped in carrying out the Kadiwa para sa Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda (KBBM) by delivering fuel subsidies, freshwater, ice and food packs, Tarriela said. The supplies would encourage Filipino fishermen, who have been in the area since Jan. 26, “to sustain their extended fishing activities,” Tarriela said. “Despite the continued presence of these CCG vessels, Filipino fishermen have steadfastly continued to fish in these waters, exercising their rightful access to fish,” he noted.

Sed LexThere are no surprises here. The Supreme Court last year unanimously ruled the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte unconstitutional. The Court ruled the first three impeachment complaints, according to the chamber’s own rules, effectively resulted in the initiation of the proceedings. This was not how the impeachment process should be, the Court ruled. The Court ruled that operative fact doctrine cannot be invoked by parties responsible for unconstitutional acts. Motorists, plan your trips accordingly. Starting Sunday, Feb. 1, portions of EDSA near West and North Avenues in Quezon City will be closed to traffic to make way for MRT-7 girder launching activities, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and Department of Tourism announced. These closures are necessary to safely install a steel superstructure connecting the MRT-7 North EDSA turnback track. The closures will specifically affect the two outermost lanes on the northbound side and the two innermost lanes on the southbound side of EDSA near North Avenue. Motorists are encouraged to monitor updates and plan for delays as these critical infrastructure works proceed.
