Ucar, in which Lu is chairman and CEO, said in a statement late on Monday that the company applied to halt trading in its shares to avoid abnormal price fluctuations and protect investor interest amid media reports on the company. Ucar said its shares will halt trading on China’s New Third Board equity market for as long as a month and will resume trading no later than May 6. NEEQ asked the company to explain whether the alleged fraud at Luckin could result in Lu being sued or have his stakes frozen. Ucar was also asked to spell out measures it plans to take to mitigate the risks from the Luckin probe.

Charles Zhengyao Lu, non-executive chairman of Luckin Coffee, speaks during the company's IPO at the Nasdaq Market site in New YorkHONG KONG/NEW YORK (Reuters) – Luckin Coffee <LK.O> Chairman Charles Zhengyao Lu and Chief Executive Jenny Zhiya Qian have handed over shares in the embattled Chinese coffee chain to lenders after a company controlled by Lu’s family defaulted on a $518 million margin loan, one of the banks said on Monday. Lu Zhengyao did not immediately respond to a request for comment. If all the shares pledged under the $518 million loan are sold, Lu Zhengyao’s voting interest in Luckin Coffee would not decrease, while Qian’s beneficial and voting interests would decrease significantly, Goldman Sachs said, without quantifying the size of the reduction. The class B shares will be converted into American Depositary Shares (ADSs). Luckin shares were down a further 15.4% in early afternoon trading in New York on Monday.

Some 2,656 new virus cases were reported in the 24 hours ending at midnight Saturday, most of them in the central province of Hubei, where the first patients fell sick in December. That was down by about 20% from the 3,399 new cases reported in the previous 24-hour period. The fatality toll passed the 774 people believed to have died of SARS, another viral outbreak that originated in China. The total of 37,198 confirmed cases of the new virus vastly exceeds the 8,098 sickened by SARS. Italy recommended students returning from China stay home from school for two weeks after the government reported three cases.

WATERTOWN - Unlike other art shows, visitors can touch, probe, sniff and listen to striking works by visually impaired and sighted artists in an exciting multisensory exhibition at the Mosesian Center for the Arts. Inviting visitors to explore original works through their fingertips and more, “Please Touch The Art” adds new dimensions to viewers' encounters with 52 unique pieces made by 40 artists. Like the blind, visually impaired and sighted artists whose work is on display, this thoughtful exhibit features art that can be enjoyed through all the senses by all kinds of visitors. … The work chimes, rattles, purrs, emits music and poetry.”Matt Jatkola, creative services manager for the Mosesian Center, is the exhibition's co-curator. Director of exhibitions Aneleise Ruggles said the idea for “Please Touch The Art” began more than three years ago as she sought ways to “increase accessibility to visual arts” at the Center.

"I think it's in the interests of both China and the United States to have some kind of successful agreement. It is unclear when the formal U.S.-China trade negotiations will restart but the United States is "certainly willing to engage" with China in the discussions, Lighthizer testified. China said on Wednesday positive outcomes were possible in trade negotiations with the United States, after Trump and Xi agreed to revive their troubled talks at the June 28-29 G20 meeting. Washington has already imposed 25% tariffs on $250 billion of Chinese goods, ranging from semi-conductors to furniture, that are imported to the United States. The United States has pressed China to change its practices on intellectual property theft and requirements that U.S. companies share their technology to do business in China.

BEIJING (Reuters) - Foreign investors remained enthusiastic about China, the foreign ministry said on Tuesday, following U.S. President Donald Trump's claim that his tariffs are causing companies to move production away from the world's second largest economy. Trump took the step after China sought major changes to a deal that U.S. officials said had been largely agreed. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang, responding to a question on Trump's claim at a daily news briefing, said foreign investors were "still bullish" on China. Lu listed companies, including Tesla, BASF and BMW, as all having recently increased their investment in China. He added that China would continue to improve business and investment conditions for foreign companies.

Google also said existing smartphone owners would not lose access to its Google Play app store or security features. But unless the U.S. Commerce Department grants exceptions, a ban announced last week on all purchases of U.S. technology would badly hurt Huawei, analyst say. But it's not yet clear what other Google software and services — such as maps, Gmail or search — it will be able to use. "For users of our services, Google Play and the security protections from Google Play Protect will continue to function on existing Huawei devices," it added.

Taiwan has made history by becoming the first Asian country to legalize marriage equality. In addition to same-sex marriage, the bill also granted limited adoption rights to same-sex couples. We took a big step towards true equality, and made Taiwan a better country. To accommodate the referendum and comply with the court’s ruling, lawmakers drafted a new law specific to same-sex marriage, which leaves the original civil marriage law as defining marriage between one man and one woman. Phil Robertson, Deputy Asia Director for Human Rights Watch, called the passing of marriage equality a “tremendous victory” for LGBTQ rights.
