The Sagitta is a Liberian-flagged tanker and its registration says it is owned and managed by a company in Hong Kong. The tanker was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department under an executive order related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Trump told reporters just hours before the announcement that the U.S. already has taken 50 million barrels of oil out of Venezuela.

- Eduardo Munoz/ReutersIf your next Amazon order seems more expensive, President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs may be partially to blame, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said Tuesday. Like many retailers, Amazon and its vast network of third-party sellers loaded up on inventory ahead of Trump’s tariff rollout last spring. “So you start to see some of the tariffs creep into some of the prices, some of the items,” he said. “While we are seeing prices for some sellers and some brands go up, overall the prices of products on Amazon have not changed outside of normal fluctuations,“ an Amazon spokesperson said. Amazon isn’t the only retailer warning of higher prices because of tariffs.

President Trump has never been a man to ask what he can do for his country. A review by the editorial board relying on analyses from news organizations shows that Mr. Trump has used the office of the presidency to make at least $1.4 billion. During the government shutdown, Mr. Trump even used a private gift to finance his policy priorities. It is impossible to know how often Mr. Trump makes official decisions, in part or entirely, because he wants to be richer. The United States risks falling into this cynical spiral as Mr. Trump hollows out the institutions of government for personal gain.
