"We knew the way to win this game was to put a mammoth score on the board," England's stand-in skipper Ollie Pope said. "I think that's credit to (Brook and Root) for the skills they've got with the bat, the determination they had to put the team in a winning position. "We're hurt as a nation, but the beauty of the game is it always gives you another chance. Life gives you another chance so the quick turnaround might be quite beneficial for us and we're all looking forward to it," Masood said. Breakdancers have been urged to avoid headspinning after a dancer who developed a cone-shaped lump on his head due to "years of extensive headspinning practice” had to have it surgically removed. The benign tumour, dubbed a “breakdance bulge”, was more than an inch thick, according to a report published by the British Medical Journal. The condition is thought to be caused by repeated friction between the scalp and the floor, combined with pressure from the dancer’s body. The unnamed dancer from Denmark trained five times a week – including up to seven minutes of headspinning – and had been wearing a hat to hide the bulge.

Write to letters@thetimes.co.ukSir, The UK has a strong record of attracting global capital (“Will Starmer’s ‘mini-Davos’ jump-start investment in Britain?”, Oct 4). We estimate that there is £500 billion of “dry powder” available to be deployed in infrastructure globally, in stable, well-regulated economies. The Unravelling Wilburys, however, are renowned, as much for their humour as their musical renditions. Claiming to be the original Wilbury brothers from Nashville Tennessee, these “good ol’ boys” reckon their original songs were stolen by Dylan and co who became a tribute to them. “We’re really looking forward to our first-ever show at the Memorial Theatre,” said John Freeman.

The Northern Lights have illuminated the skies over the UK and parts of the US, with vibrant displays of colour visible as far south as Kent in England. However, the spectacle extended further south, offering a rare opportunity for people to witness the phenomenon. In the US, parts of the northern states also experienced the dazzling light show. The display is the result of a powerful solar eruption that has sent charged particles from the sun hurtling towards Earth. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) had earlier issued a G4 geomagnetic storm watch, one of the most severe classifications.
