This comes amid concerns over his health and mental acuity and the accusation by Democratic rival Kamala Harris that he is “increasingly unstable and unhinged” after a threat over the weekend to deploy the National Guard or even the military against American citizens. The former president appeared in that state on Monday night when his town hall event in suburban Philadelphia turned into a confused, impromptu dance party when two people in the audience suffered medical emergencies. A man who had £165,000 stolen from his Revolut business account by fraudsters has told BBC Panorama he believes the company’s security measures failed to prevent the theft. He says criminals managed to bypass the ID verification process to gain access to his account. So far, Revolut has refused to refund this money. The BBC has found that Revolut was named in more reports of fraud in the last financial year than any of the major High Street banks. The e-money firm - which has not yet been granted full status as a bank - says it takes fraud incredibly seriously and that it has “robust controls” to meet its legal and regulatory obligations.

Alarming Arrest Outside Trump Rally Raises Safety Concerns Authorities prevent potential threat as man is detained with firearms and fake IDs near Coachella rallyA recent political gathering for former President Donald Trump took a wild turn when law enforcement arrested Vem Miller, a 49-year-old man from Las Vegas, outside the rally held on Saturday evening, October 14, 2023, in Coachella, California. Authorities were on high alert at the rally, as Trump’s events historically attract significant attention and, at times, unrest. This arrest arrives fresh on the heels of several troubling events aimed at Trump. Just months prior, he had experienced a near-miss shooting at another rally, underscoring the heightened tensions surrounding his public appearances. Previous comments by Miller and his associations with extremist groups could suggest troubling possible future encounters at political events if left unaddressed.

The World Conker Championships is investigating cheating allegations after the men’s winner was found to have a steel chestnut in his pocket. Jakins was responsible for drilling and inserting strings into other competitors’ chestnuts as the competition’s top judge, known as the “King Conker”. Alastair Johnson-Ferguson, who lost in the men’s final against Jakins, said he suspected “foul play”, the Telegraph reported. But this isn’t cheating or a fix, and I didn’t mark the strings.”St John Burkett, a spokesperson for the World Conker Championships, said the cheating claims were being investigated. “Allegations of foul play have been received that somehow King Conker swapped his real conker for the metal one later found in his pocket.

Write to letters@thetimes.co.ukSir, The government keeps talking about “working people” and how it has pledged not to increase tax for them. However, if it raises employers’ contributions to national insurance, those same “working people” will be affected because they are likely to receive smaller pay rises (“Tories accuse Labour of plotting ‘betrayal’ on national insurance”, Oct 14). An employer will allocate a certain amount of money for pay awards. If the government then demands more for its tax, that money must come from somewhere. If this latest assault on businesses is indeed true, the government will be hurting the very people it claims it

Lilly Ledbetter, an equal pay advocate whose lawsuit against her employer inspired the Fair Pay Act of 2009, died Saturday in Alabama at age 86. “Lilly Ledbetter never set out to be a trailblazer or a household name. She just wanted to be paid the same as a man for her hard work,” wrote Barack Obama , who in 2009 signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. “I was shortchanged, but this fight became bigger than Lilly Ledbetter. Just-in-time used to be the management consultant mantra to get British industry to drag manufacturing efficiency and productivity into the late 20th century. Cross-border Brexit friction and long-Covid in the supply chain means it’s more a case of when-we-can. Just in time, is the expression that best describes Labour’s belated appointment of an investment minister and, separately, a chair for its industrial strategy advisory council ahead of Monday’s lovebombing investment summit. The roles were looking a little tarnished after Benjamin Wegg-Prosser had turned down the former and Dame Carolyn McCall had spurned the latter. The approach to Wegg-Prosser, chief executive and founder of Global Counsel, had looked a little odd given his close connection to the

Starmer told captains of industry that his recently elected Labour government would "rip out the bureaucracy that blocks investment" and pledged to slash red tape. The premier -- treading a tricky path to be both pro-business and also pro-worker, with a series of new workplace safeguards for employees -- has placed great importance on the International Investment Summit in London. The government said the summit had helped raise £63 billion ($82 billion) of foreign investment in UK projects, which the government hopes will overshadow its chaotic build-up. "Private-sector investment is the way we rebuild our country and pay our way in the world. Reeves told the summit she would cap corporation tax at 25 percent for the entire five-year parliament.

However, four months on Surrey County Council has yet to enforce the Supreme Court ruling, despite knowing UKOG is ignoring the ruling and continuing to extract oil from the site. They are holding placards stating “Surrey County Council, stop UKOG flouting Supreme Court Horse Hill ruling”, “CEO Stephen Sanderson Stop Pumping Oil Unlawfully At Horse Hill” and “No More Planet Killing Emissions – Time To Restore Horse Hill To Nature”. Surrey County Council need to tell Mr Sanderson to stop all activity at Horse Hill until UKOG have planning permission. They will be enforcing a Supreme Court judgement and no reasonable person could possibly criticise them for that, so I urge them now to do what they should have done as soon as the Supreme Court decision was handed down; instruct them to stop the works now. She said: “The Supreme Court decision was a beacon of light in a world of dire climate news.

The Catalan has not yet given any response, as he still has to make up his mind on whether he will actually leave Manchester City in the summer. The FA has long seen that as Guardiola, given his status as the best manager in the world and one of the greatest in history.
