Starmer's response came after the Liberal democrat leader, Ed Davey, asked what actions the government would take after Smotrich said starving 2 million Palestinians in Gaza was 'justified and moral' and Ben-Gvir called Israeli settlers who killed Palestinians in the West Bank 'heroes'. Starmer replied: 'We are looking at that because they’re obviously abhorrent comments … along with other really concerning activity in the West Bank but also across the region'

Rio Ferdinand has explained why Jurgen Klopp would have never taken the England jobRio Ferdinand reckons Jurgen Klopp would have declined the England job due to his close ties with Liverpool. However, Manchester United legend Ferdinand didn't see Klopp as a viable option given he'd cited tiredness as a key reason for quitting Liverpool after nine successful years in charge. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand Presents, he said: "Who else was available? Klopp comes out of Liverpool, but I don't think he was quite gettable." However, Tuchel has now been announced as England's new manager, becoming just the third non-Englishman to take charge of the Three Lions. And when asked why he took the role instead of holding out for the United job, Tuchel explained: "The idea and the way John [McDermott] and Mark [Bullingham] presented it was very fast and confidential. "It was very straightforward, it was a decision for this job and not against anything else." Tuchel will officially start work next year and has signed a deal that runs until the 2026 World Cup. The Guardian's chief sports writer, Barney Ronay, explains why it does – and doesn't – matter that England's new head coach, Thomas Tuchel, is not English. On one hand, international football should be a demonstration of a country's use of systems and resources, including coaching. On the other, the appointment of a highly competent foreign manager like Tuchel is in fact very in keeping with the English system – just look at the Premier League, where the best talent is brought in to deliver the best spectacle. Tuchel has managed at Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich but has often fallen out with his superiors – his England reign is guaranteed to be entertaining.

US Demands Israel To Increase Gaza Aid Amid Military Support Concerns Washington warns Israel of potential military funding cuts if humanitarian aid to Gaza does not improve significantlyThe United States has issued a pointed warning to Israel, demanding the enhancement of humanitarian aid access to Gaza or risk facing reductions in military support. Since the onset of a renewed offensive against Hamas, humanitarian aid deliveries have plummeted, with the United Nations stating no new aid reached northern Gaza for over two weeks prior to quickened efforts on Monday. Pursuant to the U.S. communication, Israel has been instructed to allow at least 350 aid trucks per day to enter Gaza across its main crossings. Over the course of the year, U.S. laws mandate scrutiny of military assistance provided to nations impeding humanitarian support, adding pressure for compliance from Israel. The push for lifting humanitarian constraints awaits clear responses from Israel, highlighting the precarious balance of military alliances and accountability under international humanitarian law.
