Three weeks after the tragedy that claimed the life of former One Direction singer Liam Payne, the late singer's body is finally heading home. Authorities in Buenos Aires approved the repatriation of the body back to the UK earlier this week, said a source with knowledge of proceedings. Payne's body left the British Cemetery in Chacarita, Buenos Aires, where it was embalmed, at around 6am this morning, en route to an airport, another source confirmed to the Times. A video circulating on social media showed Payne's father at Ezeiza International Airport, minutes before boarding. Liam Payne's father, Geoff Payne, who has been in Buenos Aires since October 16, on Tuesday visited the hotel where his late son died for a second time.

My colleague wrote recently about the deeper meaning of the “promise of America” that Kamala Harris invoked on the campaign trail. This America is cruel and vicious, uninterested in equality or justice, instead intent on indulging its basest desires. Harris’s campaign announced that she would not be speaking on Tuesday night. Her campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond addressed the crowd assembled for the vice-president’s election-night party, and said: 'We still have votes to count. We still have states that have not been called yet. We will continue, overnight, to fight to make sure that every vote is counted, that every voice has spoken. So you won’t hear from the vice-president tonight, but you will hear from her tomorrow.'

The New York Times editorial board was despondent over President-elect Donald Trump’s decisive victory, declaring his return to power was a “grave threat” to the republic. Trump’s election poses a grave threat to [the] republic, but he will not determine the long-term fate of American democracy. The New York Times is not among those enthused about Trump’s win. AP Photo/Alex BrandonUnlike other legacy newspapers that skipped endorsements in this cycle, like the Washington Post and Los Angeles Times, the New York Times laid down its marker in clear fashion in September. It wasn’t a shocker for the Times to back a Democratic candidate, though: This was the 17th consecutive presidential election it had done so.

McCune said he earned the win and that the oil industry super PAC had no big influence. I think that worked well in Belmont District 4,” he said. In the past, oil industry groups have poured money into elections in Richmond and Benicia, cities that are home to the Chevron and Valero refineries. Hurt has pointed out that Belmont has no oil industry infrastructure. Its representatives and those for the oil companies funding it have not commented on why they spent money on flyers supporting McCune.

This was really about some very, very powerful forces who invested more money in a mayor’s race than has ever happened in the history of San Francisco by a huge amount,” Peskin told KQED on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, a directly competing measure from Peskin, Proposition E, was similarly aimed to reform the city’s commission system. That measure, however, did not create an arbitrary cap on the number of commissions. Supporters of Proposition D said that commissions have made it harder for elected officials to make direct decisions and have hampered government efficiency. “This is a city that refuses to be pushed in the wrong direction by a handful of wealthy billionaires.”

Arizona and every other battleground state has gone for Trump, and decisively handed him a second term. My colleague wrote recently about the deeper meaning of the “promise of America” that Kamala Harris invoked on the campaign trail. This America is cruel and vicious, uninterested in equality or justice, instead intent on indulging its basest desires. I hope my kids inherit some semblance of that “promise of America.” But I’d be lying if I said I believed, in this moment, that we will. But the greatness of America has always been our resilience and our commitment to truth and justice.
