NHS England has intervened in a changing room dispute taking place at Darlington Memorial Hospital, involving a group of nurses. Over the last 11 months, the nurses at Darlington Memorial Hospital had been given a temporary converted office to change in, separate to the women’s changing room. Now, NHS England has waded into the dispute and told the trust that this provision is “inadequate”. It has been reported that the intervention by NHS England came following instruction by the health and social care secretary, Wes Streeting. Sandie Peggie has claimed she was subjected to unlawful harassment under the Equality Act 2010 by being made to share a changing room with Dr Beth Upton, a transgender woman.

A blood sample showed he head 656mcg of Benzoylecgonine – the body breakdown product for cocaine – per litre of blood. The specified limit is 50mcg. Bowness, of Newlands Gardens, Workington, pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit when he appeared before Workington Magistrates’ Court. He must also pay £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.

A senior UK nurse leader and academic has been elected to help lead a body representing nurses across the globe. Professor Emily McWhirter, a registered nurse and associate director of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Leadership Academy, was today appointed to the board of directors of the International Council of Nurses (ICN). “We’re in a world which is changing week by week,” said Professor McWhirter. She has a PhD in nursing leadership, a qualification in healthcare management and holds a degree in midwifery, though is not currently a registered midwife. The senior nurse said her academic work on healthcare management fostered a “passion” to “strengthen [the] middle level of nurses”.
